Brief Description


Team seeks a Rail Yard Project Manager with experience in:

  • Rail yard projects
  • Design-build, design-bid-build and innovative project delivery strategies
  • Managing a hybrid team of on-site and remote-work professionals

You will provide leadership and drive performance on a large public transportation infrastructure project involving multiple construction packages. Your team will be responsible for project management across the project life cycle – preliminary engineering through project closeout. Your and their responsibilities, which will be supported by other technical staff, will include:

  • Accountability for quality and safety performance
  • Oversee the planning and scheduling of work, including review and approval of tasks required to meet project deadlines
  • Provide leadership in the development of production work plans, contract documents, schedules, and budgets
  • Assure successful client and stakeholder communications, overseeing coordination with contractor client, owner, and local authorities having jurisdiction
  • Navigate the practical realities in a rapidly changing project environment
  • Manage the efforts of a multi-disciplinary team from pre-construction through construction to commissioning
  • Evaluate costs/benefits of emerging technologies to improve implementation
  • Coordinate advanced conceptual and preliminary engineering design and/or design review activities for alignments, guideways, systems, and other physical elements of projects including all civil, structural, traffic, and architectural elements
  • Coordinate with multiple contract packages
  • Participate in development of performance specifications, technical and O&M guidance
  • Work with both internal and external teams of experts and coordinate design activities between staff, external consultants, and clients
  • Review engineering information produced by internal and external teams to verify that the design meets the different technical requirements of the project
  • Manage subconsultants
  • Participate in value engineering, quality control, and constructability reviews.
  • Using a “design-to-budget” rubric, identify both schedule and quantities variances and develop recommendations for corrective action
  • Oversee estimation of quantities for bidding phase of design-build project(s); track quantity change through final design and procurement
  • Manage project budgets and cash flow using project controls tools and earned value analysis
  • Lead, assist with, and/or supervise preparation of monthly progress reports and invoice packages
  • Provide meaningful mentorship to junior personnel across the organization

You must be located in the Bay Area, CA or be willing to relocate.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture Planning or Construction Management required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • California State PE license desired (or the ability to obtain one within six months)
  • At least 8+years of experience in one discipline of transit design (civil, structures, track)
  • 8+ years of progressive experience managing large multi-discipline projects
  • Design-build or alternate delivery project experience on large projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills
