Job Description:

Lab Supervisor

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily work assignments/supervision for hourly Lab department employees.
  • Oversee and assist in the coordination of Lab personnel, increase equipment reliability, and reduce downtime.

     

  • Reporting of Lab procedures / efficiencies
  • Maintain up-to-date training of Lab Technicians
  • Monitor and report test progress
  • Ensure all scheduled tests are completed according to the approved test procedures and approve and release all confirming tests
  • Effectively communicate department goals, achievements, problems, solutions, written practices, and changes
  • Schedule employees in order to meet production needs
  • Recommend improvements in production methods, equipment, quality, and working environments
  • Issue purchase requisitions for Lab supplies
  • Plan and maintain production schedules
  • Enforce Company policies and procedures (i.e., Safety, Quality)
  • Analyze and resolve work problems
  • Recommend personnel actions (i.e., promotions, disciplinary, etc.)
  • Maintain time and production records
  • Instruct and ensure employees are practicing safe work habits
  • Coordinate repairs with central maintenance or outside techs
  • Coordinate waste acid disposal
  • Develop new machining / sample preparation techniques
  • Maintain calibration program for the entire department
  • Operate Chemical testing equipment as necessary (Leco, XRF, OE)
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and initiate repairs as needed

 



Job Requirements:

Requirements:

  • 2-5 Years of relevant Lab experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field of study, but a related technical degree is preferred
  • In lieu of degree, a minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a Lab environment
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, preferably in a Union environment
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Fluent in Microsoft software
  • Previous knowledge of the steel-making process
  • Previous experience in Lab testing in the steel industry.
