Job Description:
Lab Supervisor
Responsibilities:
- Provide daily work assignments/supervision for hourly Lab department employees.
Oversee and assist in the coordination of Lab personnel, increase equipment reliability, and reduce downtime.
- Reporting of Lab procedures / efficiencies
- Maintain up-to-date training of Lab Technicians
- Monitor and report test progress
- Ensure all scheduled tests are completed according to the approved test procedures and approve and release all confirming tests
- Effectively communicate department goals, achievements, problems, solutions, written practices, and changes
- Schedule employees in order to meet production needs
- Recommend improvements in production methods, equipment, quality, and working environments
- Issue purchase requisitions for Lab supplies
- Plan and maintain production schedules
- Enforce Company policies and procedures (i.e., Safety, Quality)
- Analyze and resolve work problems
- Recommend personnel actions (i.e., promotions, disciplinary, etc.)
- Maintain time and production records
- Instruct and ensure employees are practicing safe work habits
- Coordinate repairs with central maintenance or outside techs
- Coordinate waste acid disposal
- Develop new machining / sample preparation techniques
- Maintain calibration program for the entire department
- Operate Chemical testing equipment as necessary (Leco, XRF, OE)
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and initiate repairs as needed
Job Requirements:
Requirements:
- 2-5 Years of relevant Lab experience
- Bachelor’s degree in any field of study, but a related technical degree is preferred
- In lieu of degree, a minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a Lab environment
- Demonstrated leadership skills, preferably in a Union environment
- Previous supervisory experience
- Fluent in Microsoft software
- Previous knowledge of the steel-making process
- Previous experience in Lab testing in the steel industry.
