Our Client is an established construction management, design/build firm and general contractor who is looking for a LEAD ESTIMATOR to join their team of top professionals on Long Island.

Job Description:

The Lead Estimator, will generate and manage estimates required for pre-construction and bidding efforts. The Lead Estimator provides estimates, budget control, bid coverage and procurement projects and potential projects during pre-construction and construction phases of a project and across all scopes, systems, and assemblies. Estimates vary from conceptual to lump sum bids. Ability to complete full quantity take-offs to support accurate estimates for all disciplines in commercial projects including, but not limited to civil and site work, structural, concrete, envelope, finishes, mechanical, and electrical. A complete understanding of the interrelationship of the cost of labor, material, equipment, and productivity in the unit costs used at each level of an estimate is expected.  

  1. Scope of work-Reviews construction documents and understands scope of work. Develop project specific trade scopes.  Knowledge of rules and regulations for AHJ.  
  2. Quantity Take-offs-Executes quantity take-offs of construction documents.
  3. Manage Trade Coverage-Manage subcontractor database and contact information.
  4. Communication -Manage communications with design team, subcontractors, and in-house staff. Obtains cost proposals from subcontractors. Informs the immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer database.
  5. Oversight of MWBE Compliance and Coverage.
  6. Preparation of Cost Analysis-Prepares cost analysis in computer by outlining material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead costs incurred in the installation of items and organizing them on company server.  
  7. Bid Process Leadership-Lead project estimate process. Oversight of trade bid list and coverage. Complete final bid for review with Director of Estimating.
  8. Presentations-Prepare estimate presentations, special studies, budget control reports and estimating documents for projects and client presentations.  
  9. Estimating-  Where predetermined standard(s) are not available, makes an estimate.
  10. Resource Development and Maintenance-Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
  11. Attends departmental meetings as required.
  12. Supervision- Supervises support staff and provides mentoring/training to ensure progress growth of skill set in Estimating.  
  13. Analysis-Analyzes architectural blueprints. Understanding of GC’s, GR’s and project specific requirements. Edit/amend trade specific boiler plate template scopes.
  14. Knowledgeable and able to operate computer programs including Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel & Word, SmartBid and Onscreen.  
  15. May visit field of active projects.

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management architecture, engineering or equivalent.  
  • 5 years experience with the bid process, working on estimates including conceptual, ground up and major projects.
  • Mastery of super structure, site and MEP trades, and AHJ.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and applicable estimating software.
