Our client is seeking a dynamic Mechanical Engineer III to perform a variety of complex duties in support of the manufacturing and development of space mechanisms, actuators, motors, twist caps, and motor controllers operating in a space environment. Running analysis such as structural, thermal, bearing, & fastener using CREO and Ansys simulation. Mechanical design and documentation of space related parts and assemblies. Create models, drawings, spreadsheets, and analysis to support Engineering. Design Test fixtures to support testing on space related electro mechanical assemblies.  Directly involved in the development of new products designed for harsh environments on Earth, Space, and other planets.


Job Description:

    • The Mechanical Engineer III will perform complicated tasks on a daily basis:
    • Design and analysis on Space related electro mechanical products.
    • Create all aspects of development, models, drawings, analysis, and spreadsheets supporting engineering from concept through sustaining activities.
    • Collaborate with all levels of engineering in the development of new ideas; reviews current documentation and develop Engineering change Orders (ECO) as required.
    • Ensure compliance to design contract specification and schedule.
    • Design fixtures and shop aides as required.
    • Collaborate in team meetings and LEAN activities.
    • Participate in safety training and comply with safety policies and practices.
    • Interacts with customers and vendors as necessary based on project scope; makes presentations to communicate engineering findings.
    • Define project objectives, metrics and milestones, monitor project status, report on progress and take corrective action as appropriate.
    • Must be self-motivated, process driven, able to work across functional boundaries in a team environment, and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Occasionally travels to customers or vendors to support engineering activities as required.
    • Occasionally travels to test facilities to participate in device qualification at various facilities in the United States and abroad as required by the specific mission requirements.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Work is performed without appreciable direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively longer-term perspective in terms of desired results.
    • Math & Analytical skills: advanced mathematical skills, including statistical analysis; review and compare data to identify inconsistencies and determine priorities; ability to collect, analyze and summarize information to a general understanding; ability to think abstractly and separate complex ideas into simple elements.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline and 5 years of related experience. In lieu of degree, 9-11 years of related experience can be considered.
  • Communication skills: ability to receive messages by telephone, in person, electronically and in writing; ask questions and rephrase statements to clarify meaning; ability to read, interpret and comprehend complex written technical publications; communicate across organizational levels; ability to communicate with quality, integrity and respect in a way that inspires others and encourages innovation and possibilities.
