Our Client is an established construction management, design/build firm and general contractor who is looking for an MEP ESTIMATOR to join their team of top professionals on Long Island.

Job Description:

The MEP Estimator will generate and manage estimates required for pre-construction and bidding efforts by focusing on the estimated costs for the fire suppression, plumbing, HVAC and electric trades. The MEP Estimator provides estimates, budget control, bid coverage and procurement during pre-construction and construction phases of a project. Estimates vary from conceptual to lump sum bids. Ability to complete full quantity take-offs to support accurate estimates. Ability to coordinator with the Lead Estimator and understand the relationship of the MEP trades with all other disciplines in commercial projects including, but not limited to site work, structural, concrete, envelope and finishes. A complete understanding of the interrelationship of the cost of labor, material, equipment, and productivity in the unit costs used at each level of an estimate is expected. Ability to represent previous work history focused on a major components of the MEP trades.  

  1. Scope of work-Reviews construction documents and understands scope of work. Develop project specific trade scopes.  Knowledge of rules and regulations for AHJ.  
  2. Quantity Take-offs-Executes quantity take-offs of construction documents.
  3. Manage Trade Coverage-Manage subcontractor database and contact information.
  4. Communication -Manage communications with design team, subcontractors, and in-house staff. Obtains cost proposals from subcontractors. Informs the immediate supervisor/ Lead Estimator of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer database.
  5. Oversight of MWBE Compliance and Coverage.
  6. Preparation of Cost Analysis-Prepares cost analysis in computer by outlining material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead costs incurred in the installation of items and organizing them on company server.  
  7. Bid Process Leadership-Input on trade bid list and coverage.  
  8. Presentations-Prepare estimate presentations, special studies, budget control reports and estimating documents for projects and client presentations.  
  9. Estimating-  Where predetermined standard(s) are not available, makes an estimate.
  10. Resource Development and Maintenance-Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
  11. Attends departmental meetings as required.
  12. Analysis-Analyzes architectural blueprints. Edit/amend trade specific boiler plate template scopes.
  13. Knowledgeable and able to operate computer programs including Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel & Word, SmartBid and Onscreen.  
  14. May visit field of active projects.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management architecture, engineering or equivalent.  
  • 5 years experience with the bid process, working on estimates including conceptual, ground up and major projects.
  • Mastery of MEP trades and codes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and applicable estimating software.
