Job Description:

METALLURGIST – Dunkirk, NY

We seek a Process Metallurgist to provide customer technical service and process and product metallurgy support.   The ideal candidate will also provide technical support for the sales and operations departments and also be responsible for process and product quality improvement. The salary range for this position ranges up to $90k and the great benefits include profit sharing, bonuses and a 401k match.

 Essential Job Functions

• Sales Support
  • Review inquiries and incoming orders
  • Provide technical support for customers
  • Review claims and material specifications
  • Develop new product lines
  • Review and investigate claims, write claims resolution reports
• Operations Support
  • Develop manufacturing plans and procedures
  • Optimize production processes; issue process change requests
  • Analyze rejects and non-conformities
• QA/QC functions
  • Develop QC test plans for orders
  • Review test results for acceptability
  • Release orders for shipment
  • Maintain written procedures
  • Oversee materials testing functions – Chemical, mechanical, NTD
  • Assist QA Manager with internal audits

• Record/Review Release Orders
• Process consistency improvement
• Product quality improvement
• Direct efforts of Lab Technicians on specific matters.

Job Requirements:

Requirements

• Metallurgical experience, preferably in a steel mill environment
• Experience in Stainless and hi-temperature materials
• BS Material Science and Engineering or Metallurgy

 Other Skills/Abilities

• Computer proficiency
• Strong analytical, statistical, and communication skills
• Problem-solving and performance improvement (design of experiments, Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, etc.)
• Statistical process control and statistical analysis
