Perform Quality Engineering support to internal Operations and external customers as part of a team of Quality Engineers to support multiple Value Streams and Shared Services related to quality assurance, quality engineering and quality control requirements. The Quality Engineer requires organizational and technical skills to support quality initiatives, operational support and improvement opportunities. The Quality Engineer leads cross-functional teams to support causal analysis, corrective action and improvement activities in an AS9102 space/aero manufacturing environment. Works closely with Quality Inspectors, Manufacturing Engineering and Design Engineering in the organization to support mechanical/dimensional and visual inspection of finished goods and supplier parts.
Job Description:
Responsibilities:
- Understanding of basic GD&T (blueprint reading)
- Ability to read and understand technical specifications and test documentation
- Some inspection for troubleshooting defects, first article or compliance, including mechanical/dimensional and visual inspection on workmanship criteria of a diverse product line across different Value Streams
- Proficient in working with measuring and monitoring equipment (calipers, height gages, pin gages, vernier’s, etc.)
- Capable and comfortable with reviewing technical documentation for accuracy and completeness, comparing to drawings/specifications
- Write DMRs (Defective Material Reports) for nonconforming parts. Facilitate MRB (Material Review Board, convening manufacturing engineering, design engineering, planning and quality engineering
- Comfortable with learning Resource Planning System to support requirements
- Conduct audits and facilitate Corrective Actions to ensure compliance to AS 9100 & ISO9001
- Manage root cause analysis, containment and development of corrective\preventive actions and follow-up for effectiveness. Response to customer requests for corrective action. Develop reports for presentation to Senior Leadership Team
- Conduct process analysis, gage R&R studies and other analysis to support improvement opportunities
- Assist those who develop, track and report metrics, including KPIs; react to metrics by identifying and solving problems, making improvements and advancing process control
- Solid written communications needed to create email notifications internally and to customers. Participate in customer program review meetings, providing input on quality impacts
- Support internal process audits
- Interface with customer Supplier Quality Engineers on quality-related issues and take appropriate actions (root cause analysis, corrective actions, etc.)
- Periodically support Material Review Board when more in-depth review of DMRs (Defective Material Report) is required. Occasionally facilitate Material Review Board when needed
- Review ECOs for engineering and/or procedure revisions to identify quality-related issues
- Ability to read and follow standards and work instructions related to the manufactured parts
- Strong inter-personal skills for discussions related to causal analysis or corrective actions with production staff and quality/engineering resources
- Periodically review customer RFQs and contracts to determine Quality flow-down requirements and pricing impacts
- Review trends in quality metrics and determine corrective actions
- Review RMAs (Return Material Authorizations) to determine correction and corrective actions
Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
MINIMUM:
- Four-year degree in engineering or technical discipline
- 5+ years’ experience in a System-level manufacturing environment
- 5+ years of experience with a Quality Management System, ISO 9001 or AS9100 as it is the basis of all our quality standards
PREFERRED:
- Candidates with Masters degrees will be considered with 3+ years of experience
- Training and/or experience in reading and understanding blueprint/drawings
- Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspection
- Experience with Lean systems, process control and Root Cause Analysis (like problem-solving tools 8D, DOE, 5 WHY, pareto, FMEA, Fishbone/Ishikawa etc.).
