After you have accepted an offer from your new employer, you need to give notice to your current employer. There are a lot or reasons why your resignation should be graceful.
- There are two sides to every story, and no matter how you feel you must recognize that your boss/employer may have a differing viewpoint.
- It’s a small world. You are likely to run into your boss and associates in the future – or at least be the topic of some conversations. You are your own brand, so don’t do anything to tarnish your image.
- As unlikely as it may seem now, at some point in the future you may want/need to return.
- You know what they say about honey vs. vinegar. Take the high road, keep your attitude in tune, and say only kind words.
Speak to your boss and firmly let him/know that you have accepted another position, that your decision is final, and that you appreciate all that has been done for you. Do not get into lengthy conversations about what went wrong, or how things will be handled going forward.
Finally, be certain to honor all your commitments going forward, such as completion of projects and confidentiality.
